You guys ever watch The Martian? The Matt Damon movie based on the Andy Weir book?
So, this mission to Mars gets emergency evacuated because of a dust storm, but a piece of equipment busts free and knocks Mark Watney unconscious and disables his suit, so his crew leaves without him. Everyone thinks he’s dead, but he’s not, so he takes stock of what he has in the habitat and realizes he has to survive until the next mission to Mars in order to reunite with a crew that’s going back home again. Even
with rationing, Mark doesn’t have enough pre-cooked meals to survive, so he has to grow his own food on Mars. Turns out there’s real potatoes in the Thanksgiving pack NASA sent, so he figures out how to use the space in the habitat — by chance, he’s a botanist — to grow potatoes.
Eventually NASA reviews satellites and realizes that Mark’s not dead. They watch what Mark is doing and since he retrieves the Pathfinder probe, they go fire up the replica in storage, and now they can communicate with Mark.
THINGS HAPPEN, Mark’s crops get destroyed, a supply mission goes sideways and explodes before it reaches Earth orbit, the Hermes — the ship Mark’s crewmates are on — slingshots around Earth and resupplies with a rocket from China to return to Mars to go pick Mark up after he uses the already arrived next mission emergency escape vehicle to get up to the Hermes, THINGS HAPPEN, Mark pretends he’s Iron Man, and TA-DA, Mark is rescued and also needs a shower.
It’s really good! The cast — Matt Damon! Jeff Daniels! Jessica Chastain! Chiwetel Ejiofor! Michael Pena! Sean Bean (who does not die!) Kate Mara! Sebastian Stan! Benedict Wong! Donald Glover! Kristin Wiig! — is great! It’s a movie about smart people doing smart and cool science things! It’s got great dialogue, it’s funny as hell for a movie where the plot is essentially “hey, this guy might die alone on Mars,” and Ridley Scott directs the absolute hell out of this thing.
Anyway, Marquette gave up a 21-1 run to end the first half and trail DePaul 32-14 at intermission before losing 62-51.
Up Next: A road trip to Providence on Wednesday night, where nothing weird has or ever will happen. Tipoff on Peacock is scheduled for 6pm Central time. The Friars beat Creighton 79-76 on Saturday to win their third straight game.
