As a general rule, I try to stay away from family squabbles. They’re usually fueled by years of resentments, so trying to do much more than lend an ear usually leads to trouble for outsiders trying to be helpful. They’re why we have therapy — which AJ Lee recently vouched for on Raw, and is something I can also report having positive experiences with myself.
Anyway… I bring this up to say that until now, I haven’t said much about the long-running issues between WWE Hall of Famer Rey Mysterio and his son,
Dominik. I try not to shy away from the tough topics here at Cageside, and I like to think my track record of tackling tough issues like the cut of John Cena’s suits, Elias’ campaign of lies, and the dangers of ill-fitting headwear speaks for itself.
But I stayed quiet as the Mysterios pushed each other’s buttons, invaded each other’s holiday celebrations, and called the cops on one another. I have to speak up after Rey’s response to Dom adding the AAA Mega championship to his WWE Intercontinental one on Friday night (Sept. 12) at Worlds Collide in Las Vegas.
Tagging the new champ along with photos of himself back in 1999, holding the WCW Cruiserweight and Tag titles at the same time, Rey wrote:
Never say you the greatest until they say you R……. Never say you the first cuz you Weren’t!! Facts Son
Love,
Your Dead Beat Dad
I could provide some examples of better responses to Dom’s accomplishment, but the Mega champ did that himself in a reply to his father:

Good job son. Maybe one day you’ll be as great as me. Now post a pic of you holding the AAA Mega Championship 🖕
What did you expect, Dom? Deadbeats gonna deadbeat. No wonder you made him strap the title around your waist on Friday night… jeez.
Sound off on Rey’s despicable message to Dom in the comments below.
