As the school year begins, many high school recruits in the class of 2027 are starting to narrow down the schools they are most interested in. Over the coming months, many of those prospects will begin announcing their finalists and scheduling official visits.
One player drawing significant attention is 5-star center Paul Osaruyi, and Kentucky has emerged as one of the programs showing interest.
Osaruyi is a 6-foot-10, 220-pound center who will play his senior season at Bella Vista Prep in Scottsdale,
Arizona. According to the 247 Sports Composite rankings, he is the No. 12 overall prospect in the country, the No. 2 center nationally, and the No. 3 player in Arizona.
The talented big man currently holds 25 scholarship offers, including Kentucky, West Virginia, Arkansas, BYU, Cincinnati, and several other major programs.
With Osaruyi receiving interest from many of the nation’s top schools, Mark Pope and his staff will have to compete against some of college basketball’s premier programs if they hope to land another elite recruit in the Class of 2027. Kentucky already has 5-star small forward Ryan Hampton committed in the class.
According to Jamie Shaw of On3, Kentucky has quickly become a program to watch in Osaruyi’s recruitment.
“Kentucky is the other school that I have heard recently with the big man. They are a ‘newer’ program in the mix, but seem to have made a relatively quick connection.”
It will be interesting to see whether Kentucky can make up ground on programs that have been involved longer and do enough to earn Osaruyi’s official visit.
Overall, Pope continues to pursue some of the nation’s top prospects and hopes to assemble a highly ranked recruiting class by landing multiple elite recruits in 2027.
