Another day, another chance to appreciate Jose Ramirez.
The Athletic’s Zack Meisel has an amazing article today looking at Jose’s sense of humor and ability to keep a roster loose and focus. I particularly enjoyed the nugget that he waits until players are performing well to tell them that if he was General Manager, he’d designate them for assignment. The whole article is great.
Speaking of Jose, he needs 2 homers for 30, 2 stolen bases for 40, 1 double for 30, 8 runs for 100, and .5 fWAR for 6 fWAR.
Kyle Manzardo needs 4 homers for 30. Slade Cecconi needs 2 K’s, Cade Smith 4 K’s & Joey Cantillo 8 K’s for 100 strikeouts. Tanner Bibee needs 4 and 1/3rd innings pitched and Williams 18 and 1/3rd innings pitched for 175.
There was some talk on the Big Play Cleveland show about the Cleveland baseball Mount Rushmore, so feel free to debate that, below. Seems like the names to consider are Nap Lajoie, Tris Speaker, Lou Boudreau, Bob Feller, Jim Thome, Larry Doby, Jose Ramirez, and – perhaps for historical impact – Satchel Paige. I have been debating back and forth, but it seems like I need at least one from each World Series winner so maybe Speaker, Boudreau, Feller and Jose.
FanGraphs’ Davy Andrews has a great article out explaining how the same defense can help one pitcher and hurt another.
Big series for the Guardians against the Tigers starts tonight at 6:40PM EDT!
AROUND MLB:
The Astros beat the Rangers, so they are 2.5 games up on the Guardians. It doesn’t affect the Guardians, but the Twins shutting out the Yankees 7-0 was hilarious.
