The Seattle Seahawks came away with a road win over the Tennessee Titans as expected, but not without multiple injuries in which every player was ruled out by halftime.
Linebacker and special teams contributor
Chazz Surratt, running back and kick returner George Holani, and backup safety Ty Okada all left Seattle’s 30-24 victory in the first half and did not return. Surratt was rolled up on and suffered a significant looking ankle injury while blocking on a kick return, Holani pulled his hamstring on a Seahawks punt return, and Okada grabbed his hip after making a tackle on Titans receiver James Proche II following a completed pass.
Mike Macdonald’s Monday press conference indicated that injured reserve is in play for seemingly everyone, albeit not as a guarantee. Tests will need to be run later in the week to determine if the Seahawks will indeed take a big hit to their special teams unit, and another hit to an already compromised safety group.
“They’re banged up” Macdonald said. “They’ve got their respective injuries. I would say that IR is part of the equation with those guys, something we have to decide. It’s really going to be a function of how some of these tests come back and how they progress throughout the rest of the week. We’ll see what their availability is for this Sunday, but they probably have to turn a corner to be available this week.”
The Seahawks have six players on in-season injured reserve right now: Jarran Reed, Julian Love, Tory Horton, Jalen Sundell, Eric Saubert, and Dareke Young.
Okada being out would really stretch the Seahawks thin at safety. D’Anthony Bell filled in for Okada after he left, but he’s primarily a special teams option. Julian Love is eligible to come back from injured reserve and return to his starting role this week against the Minnesota Vikings, but Macdonald did not firmly commit to Love actually being back for Sunday.
Coby Bryant, Nick Emmanwori, and Bell are currently the only healthy safeties on the active roster. Maxen Hook is the only safety on the practice squad.
Paging Quandre Diggs, anyone?
