The Philadelphia Eagles had to play their Week 1 game against the Dallas Cowboys without Jalen Carter, but thankfully they’ll have him back to face the Kansas City Chiefs in Week 2. The NFL announced their punishment for Carter spitting on Dak Prescott and have issued a $57,222 fine (equivalent to one game check for him) for the incident. The league reportedly factored Carter missing the entirety of the Cowboys matchup into their decision.
Carter made a dumb mistake, but the heft of the incident has been a bit overblown. The Eagles defensive tackle made a mistake, he owned up to it, said it won’t happen again, and not for nothing, Prescott played a role instigating the situation.
Carter being on the field is incredibly important for the Eagles, and we saw that in the first half against the Cowboys. Thankfully, DC Vic Fangio was able to make some adjustments at halftime, and the defense kept Dallas scoreless after the first two quarters. It was encouraging that the other players were able to step up without Carter, but it’ll be fun to see all the pieces work together with him on the field.
Hopefully Carter learned his lesson, and will make his presence known within the scope of the rules — or at least not right next to the ref …
