Have Ilia Topuria and Paddy Pimblett gone from being enemies to being friends? Nah, they’re just not ‘pieces of s–t.’
That’s according to UFC interim lightweight challenger Pimblett, who recently said he’d
leave Topuria’s ugly personal life issues out of his trash talk. That resulted in Ilia calling Paddy “a super-entertaining guy who did a superb job” of becoming a star.
“He had his slips with tweets he made about Georgia,” Topuria continued. “But I think we all learn from our mistakes, and deep down I notice that he is a person that understands family problems, personal problems, respects it.”
Those are quite the comments coming from a man who has almost brawled with Paddy multiple times. Lest things get to friendly, “The Baddy” laid out his feelings towards Topuria as simply as possible.
“I still hate him, and I know he still hates me,” Pimblett told The Independent. “We still dislike each other, we still want to batter each other, but that’s in the cage.”
“Family is different. I’d never, ever talk about someone’s family, and I know he wouldn’t talk about mine. He’s just not that way inclined. We’re not pieces of s–t like Colby Covington. It’s nothing to do with our families once we get in there.”
“He can say anything he wants about me, anything personal,” Pimblett concluded. “I can say anything personal about him. He can call me a blonde b—h all he wants, and I can call him a little midget sausage. That’s not bringing families into it, is it? So it’s all good.”
Pimblett is set to fight Justin Gaethje for the interim 155 pound belt at UFC 324 as Ilia Topuria goes through an ugly divorce with accusations of extortion and domestic abuse being thrown around. It would be really easy to get classless over the whole thing — see Bryce Mitchell’s comments on the situation for proof of that — but Pimblett has decided to take the high road.
