Both Scotland and Sweden continued their World Cup qualifying campaigns today with mixed results.
Andy Robertson captained Scotland to a victory over Belarus, keeping a third straight clean sheet as they won 2-0 at the ZTE Arena. Their good results see them sat second in Group C behind Denmark on goal difference. Robertson played the full match for his nation and put in a solid performance. Given the vice captain’s lack of minutes thus far for Liverpool these internationals will come as good news
on Merseyside: Robertson looks sharp and match fit, which will be useful in coming weeks as Liverpool’s fixture calendar gets busier.
Elsewhere Sweden were less lucky, falling 2-0 to Kosovo in Group B, where they sit in third with just one point. Alexander Isak started on the bench for his nation, coming on for 18 minutes at the end of the match after the goals had been scored. While his shots were all blocked, saved, or off target, the striker will be glad to get his first competitive minutes since May after the lengthy signing saga between Newcastle United and Liverpool.
Scotland next face Greece on Thursday, October 9th, while Sweden will hope to recover hopes of qualification the following day against Switzerland.
