The Brewers kick off their series against the Los Angeles Angels tonight, the second-to-last time they’ll be in Milwaukee for the regular season. With the season nearing its close, the Brewers are still leading the way for the top seed in the National League, but the Phillies are close behind. A series like this against the Angels, who sit in last place in their division, offers a chance to secure some important wins.
With Freddy Peralta on the mound, the team will be confident in their chances. With a 2.69
ERA this season, Peralta will be looking to bounce back from his worst start since July. He gave up five runs last time out after surrendering one or fewer runs in six straight outings. He went a season-high 113 pitches in his September 10 outing, so it will be interesting to see if he can get back on the mound with a more efficient outing against a struggling Los Angeles team.
For the Angels, 21-year-old Caden Dana will make his third start, fifth appearance overall, of the season. Across 15 2/3 innings, he has 19 strikeouts, but with a 6.32 ERA. His performance at AAA hasn’t been much more impressive, posting a 5.93 ERA over 18 starts.
Right fielder Sal Frelick takes the leadoff spot for the Brewers lineup. He’s slashed .295/.359/.405 so far through September. He’s walked five times compared to just six strikeouts, showcasing how his plate approach can be so valuable in that top spot.
Joining Frelick in the outfield are Jackson Chourio in left field and Blake Perkins in center. Christian Yelich will slot in at designated hitter.
In the infield, Caleb Durbin gets the start at third base. Joey Ortiz, Brice Turang, and Andrew Vaughn man their usual posts with William Contreras behind the dish.
First pitch is set for 6:40 p.m. CT. The broadcast will be available FanDuel Sports Wisconsin and the Brewers Radio Network.
