The Falcons fell to the Bears in Week 6, dropping to 2-4 and extending their home losing streak to three games. Things don’t get any easier this week, as the (currently, pending MNF) undefeated San Francisco 49ers come to town in Week 7. Atlanta desperately needs a win to stay afloat in a very winnable NFC South, but this a brutal matchup with one of the best teams in the NFL this season.
All that being said, the line here is not particularly huge. The 49ers (-240) are just 4.5-point road favorites
over the Falcons (+198), suggesting oddsmakers think this could be tighter than expected. An over/under of 50.5 seems to also suggest fireworks in the upcoming game. Both offenses have put up serious points at times, although the 49ers have done it much more consistently.
This is a critical game for Atlanta. Falling to 2-5 puts them way behind in the divisional race, and while the following game against the Bucs in Tampa Bay is winnable, that one more or less becomes a must-win if the team falls again in Week 7. Atlanta hasn’t typically responded well to must-win situations, but has won games like this over the past few years. The Bills game last year comes to mind. Can Atlanta pull it off this time around? We’ll see.
