The Steelers are officially signing veteran defensive lineman Dean Lowry, the team announced Tuesday.
Lowry was initially reported to be joining the team in April, but pulled out of the deal to continue getting back into football shape after suffering a torn ACL in 2025. Lowry was medically cleared but wanted more time. Now, it appears both he and the Steelers think he’s ready to return to football.
Lowry spent the 2024 and 2025 seasons in Pittsburgh. In 2024, when he was healthy, he recorded five
total tackles and one sack in 12 games. In 2026, the 6’6, 296-pound defensive end will be entering his 11th NFL season. He’ll turn 32 in June.
Lowry started his NFL career with the Green Bay Packers from 2016-22, where he spent time with now-Steelers quarterback Aaron Rodgers and several members Pittsburgh’s current coaching staff, including Mike McCarthy.
It’s unlikely Lowry is a roster lock, but he’ll compete for a spot on the defensive line depth chart alongside names such as Gabriel Rubio, Logan Lee, Esezi Otomewo, and Kevin Jobity Jr.
Per Steelers Now’s Alan Saunders, Pittsburgh released defensive tackle Jahvaree Ritzie in a corresponding roster move.
