Vergil Ortiz Jr will be remaining with Golden Boy Promotions, as the sidelined fighter has reached a settlement with the company.
Ortiz, who was meant to fight Jaron “Boots” Ennis prior to his issues with his promoter, says he’s still got his sights on that bout.
“I’m very grateful that Golden Boy and I were able to come to an understanding and resolve everything,” said Ortiz said via press release.
“I’m excited to move forward and make the biggest fights happen, including the Ennis fight. My only focus
is on delivering unforgettable fights for the fans, and I know my team and I will accomplish that together.”
Ennis (36-0, 32 KO) stopped Xander Zayas in seven rounds to win the WBA and WBO super welterweights titles on June 27, which really would make a fight with Ortiz (24-0, 22 KO) bigger and more marketable than it had been already, so in a way, everyone might have stepped into a win-win here.
The 28-year-old Ortiz last fought in November 2025, destroying Erickson Lubin inside of two rounds.
Will we get Boots vs Ortiz next, and possibly by the end of 2026?
