It is well known that Newcastle United will bring in some offensive reinforcements next summer and that scouting is already underway in Tyneside.
The latest whispers, coming from talkSPORT’s Lee Davey, point toward a Newcastle interest in Chelsea center-forward Liam Delap as a potential target for the summer transfer window.
The outlet states that Delap met Eddie Howe before he decided to join Chelsea from Ipswich last summer and that his outings last year did enough to impress the Newcastle manager.
“Liam Delap is a potential summer target for Newcastle, talkSPORT understands,” Davey wrote.
The report adds that Chelsea are likely to be open to offers for the striker, who has scored only one Premier League goal this season, even though he’s appeared in more than 20 games for the Blues.
The report also notes that Howe has made bolstering his attack a top priority during the summer transfer window.
“Newcastle were one of a host of teams interested in signing the Manchester City academy star before his move to Stamford Bridge and their interest has not cooled,” Davey notes.
No formal bid has been confirmed, and Delap remains under contract at Chelsea after joining the London club just a few months ago.
