Eddie Hearn shared more thoughts on his former fighter, Conor Benn, and Benn’s reported one-fight deal with Zuffa Boxing, which has set off quite a beef between the two parties, who worked together for many years as promoter and fighter.
Hearn carefully told iFL TV that he doesn’t believe Benn’s deal is actually just for one fight, saying he can’t imagine Zuffa are paying Benn $15 million for an April 11 undercard bout with Regis Prograis and nothing more, and also said that “everybody knows” Prograis is injured
— to the degree that, Hearn says, Prograis should not be in the ring.
On Conor Benn’s “one-fight” Zuffa deal:
“Use your brain. … Do you think there have been no other conversations or agreements beyond a one-fight deal to fight Regis Prograis, over 10 rounds, for $15 million? Regis Prograis, who shouldn’t even be in the ring, because he’s that badly injured. Conor’s getting $15 mil for a 10-round fight, with no future at all? … Wake the fuck up.”
On Regis Prograis’ status:
“Everybody knows. Everybody knows about Regis Prograis, and I ain’t gonna — I’m not gonna discredit Regis Prograis or the fight. Everyone knows the situation. Whatever.”
There have been rumors that Prograis, 37, was close to withdrawing from the fight due to injury, which Prograis has denied being the case.
Benn vs Prograis will be part of the Tyson Fury vs Arslanbek Makhmudov show from London on April 11, streaming live on Netflix.
