Andreas Christensen is nearing a return from injury and took part in some of Sunday’s session with the group at Barcelona following their win over Alaves.
The Denmark international has been out since September but looks set to be the first of Barcelona’s injured defenders to return.
Hansi Flick offered a brief update after the victory over Alaves.
“We don’t know anything yet. Their progress is good, but we’re not in the best situation. We have to survive these two games. I hope to have one or two of
them back,” he said.
“Christensen is close to rejoining the group, but then there’s a break, and we’re not going to take any risks because we need them for the rest of the season.”
According to Marca, Christensen joined his team-mates for some of the session on Sunday and could potentially be passed fit next week ahead of games against Aston Villa and Atletico.
Yet Flick’s comments suggest Christensen may have to wait until after the international break to make his comeback, with Brian Farinas and Frenkie de Jong emerging as defensive options in the meantime.
