Field Hockey (12-6)
Seven saves by Aby Deverka and a goal each from Cooper Cutchins and Lily Holmes lifted Penn State to a 2-0 upset win over No. 1 Northwestern in the regular season finale. Head coach Hannah Prince defeated a No. 1 ranked team for the first time in her coaching career. The win gave the upstart team a new sense of confidence entering the postseason.
Penn State’s Big Ten Tournament run was unfortunately cut short with a 2-1 loss to Iowa in the quarterfinals. On the bright side, the team will have a few
extra days to rest before the NCAA Tournament. Penn State is safely on the right side of the bubble and should hear their name called on Sunday’s selection show.
Women’s Volleyball (17-5)
The women’s volleyball team extended its win streak to five with a 3-1 win over Ohio State and a 3-1 win over No. 11 Purdue. Kennedy Martin had 24 kills, nine digs, and six block assists in the win over Purdue on Saturday afternoon. Emmi Sellman added 12 kills, one ace, one solo block, and three block assists in one of her best performances of the season. The Nittany Lions also added another signature win to their resume as the team vies for a top 16 seed in the NCAA Tournament. Penn State is up to No. 11 in the RPI.
Penn State has an important road trip this weekend with a match against No. 19 Minnesota on Friday (7pm on Big Ten Plus) and a match against No. 7 Wisconsin on Sunday (4pm on FS1).
Women’s Soccer (9-3-5)
The women’s soccer team blew out Indiana 4-0 in the final game of the regular season. Emma Johnson, Ellie Kocher, and Kaelyn Wolfe all scored for the Nittany Lions, and Paige Kalal added two assists. The third Penn State goal was scored as an own goal. This was the first match in conference play where Penn State scored more than two goals, and the Nittany Lions went the entire regular season without allowing more than two goals in any game.
Penn State now turns to postseason action. The Nittany Lions will face Purdue in the Big Ten quarterfinals tonight (8pm on Big Ten Plus). The winner will face Wisconsin in the semifinals on Sunday (4pm on BTN).
Women’s Hockey (9-3)
The women’s hockey team posted back-to-back shutouts in 1-0 and 6-0 wins over RIT last weekend. Abby Stonehouse had a hat trick in Game 2 to lift the Lions to a 6-0 win, and goaltenders Morgan Stickney and Maddy Campbell each recorded a shutout. It was a much-needed two-game sweep in regulation for a team still growing early in the season.
Penn State will face Mercyhurst on the road on Friday (6pm) and Saturday (1pm).
Men’s Soccer (3-9-3)
The men’s soccer team closed out an ugly 2026 season with a 2-0 shutout loss to Maryland. Penn State did not win a single Big Ten game and missed the conference tournament for the second straight season. This was not what the program needed to see after pulling in an NCAA championship coach. Hopefully they can turn things around next year, but the early returns are not good.
Women’s Basketball (0-1)
The Tanisha Wright era is off to an inauspicious start with a 62-61 loss to Cleveland State on Monday night. Ava Black led the team in points (17), rebounds (10), and assists (5), but her double-double effort was not enough to overcome a poor night shooting. Penn State finished just 21 for 66 (31.8%) from the floor, and despite finishing +4 in rebounding, +4 on turnovers, and +4 on blocks, the Vikings escaped State College with a one-point win.
The Nittany Lions will look to right the ship with a game at Cincinnati on Sunday (2pm on ESPN+) and a game at Dayton on Monday (7pm on ESPN+).
