Jim Ross is not out of the woods yet with his health issues as he just announced that he is scheduled to undergo brain surgery “in the next week or so.”
Ross shared the news during the return episode of the Grilling JR podcast uploaded on Thursday (July 9). While he gave some positive updates about his health after a recent hospitalization caused him to miss work with his current gig at AEW, he also said he will next have excess fluid drained from his brain.
“I feel pretty good. I’m getting better
every day but still got a ways to go,” Ross said to co-host Conrad Thompson. “I can’t drive yet. All that stuff. I’m cutting back on my appearances.”
He continued: “I’m just battling. I’m getting ready to have another surgery, brain surgery this time. That’s going to be an adventure, because I don’t think they’re going to find much in my brain.”
“I don’t know that there’s such a thing as a minor brain surgery, but is this a major surgery? Are you going to be in and out? Like, what should we expect here, Jim?” Thompson asked the WWE Hall of Famer.
“I’ll be in the hospital for a few days. Hopefully, nothing will go wrong,” Ross replied, adding, “I got a great surgeon.”
He then said he had seen a cardiologist earlier in the day, who approved the brain procedure. JR then provided a rough timeline of when he thinks the surgery will take place before touching upon his recent hospitalization that only recently ended.
“They’re going to do it soon. I just haven’t had a confirmed date set, but it’s going to be in the next week or so. I’m pushing for. Hey, look, it’s just an illness, and I got to get it addressed,” he said. “I couldn’t live my life the way it was. I’d forget shit, and I just couldn’t remember things. It was horrible. I felt horrible. But that all started with me passing out in my house and being discovered there, which began almost a 40-day hospital stay. Let me tell you, that’s a long ass time. Those beds are small and lumpy, the food is predictable. Sometimes, the help doesn’t give a shit if you’re fit or not. I didn’t like it.”
Next, the legendary commentator spoke a little about the surgery he’s supposed to undergo.
“This procedure that I’m getting ready to have — I think it’s called a shunt. It’ll go from my brain. I don’t know where all it’s going to go, but it’s going someplace to get that fluid off my brain that’s making me not remember stuff. It’s fairly serious. I always thought that anytime they open your skull up, it’s a serious piece of business. This certainly feels that way. So, I’ll get it done, a short hospital stay, and limp back home to heal up. That’s what I’m going to do: I’m going to heal up.”
We at Cageside Seats wish Jim Ross a full and speedy recovery.
