AEW Dynamite airs tonight (Aug. 5) with a live Grand Slam show emanating from Arena Mexico in Mexico City, Mexico. This is the second episode of Dynamite during the five week build to All In London, which takes place on August 30 at Wembley Stadium.
It looks like Hangman Page is already winning his next AEW world title on the best Dynamite of 2026
Many AEW fans consider last year’s Grand Slam Mexico to be the best episode of Dynamite in 2025. President Tony Khan will try to recreate that magic tonight when AEW returns to Arena Mexico with a loaded lineup of eight matches at Grand Slam Mexico 2026.
We’ll get to the full card in bit, but the match I want to focus on up front involves Hangman Page, who is never allowed to challenge for the AEW world championship ever again after losing to MJF at Revolution. Hangman went on hiatus from AEW after that devastating loss, but he recently returned to offer his support for Will Ospreay’s own world title chase.
When that offer was rejected, Page quickly shifted gears to target Ricochet’s very bald head with a steel chair wrapped in barbed wire. Hangman aligned himself with Bandido and Brody King with a funny new trios team name of The Good, The Bad, The Ugly. Everyone but Brody seems to know which one of those words is designated for him. At any rate, they issued a challenge for The Demand’s AEW world trios championship, and the match is official for tonight in Arena Mexico.
Some folks might be skeptical that Ricochet’s group will drop their belts just one week after becoming new champions. To counter that argument, I would like to remind everyone that last year’s Grand Slam Mexico broadcast kicked off with babyface Hangman introducing himself in Spanish to loud chants of “Cowboy Shit!” Yeah, I don’t think that guy is losing in Arena Mexico tonight, especially considering that he didn’t get to wrestle on last year’s card.
The AEW world trios championship isn’t anywhere near the same level of importance or prestige as the AEW world championship, but it’s a world title nonetheless. The rest of the card
Here are the remaining seven matches scheduled for tonight at Grand Slam Mexico. The show is scheduled for a run time of 2.5 hours, which means it’s probably going a full 3 hours once you account for the 30+ minute overrun. Let’s see if this stacked card really has the potential to produce the best episode of AEW Dynamite in 2026.
- Can they co-exist? Hopefully that’s a question nobody will have to ask when the Young Bucks team up with AEW World Tag Team Champions Christian Cage and Adam Copeland in an 8-man tag team match against AEW Continental Champion Jon Moxley, PAC, Wheeler Yuta, and that loser Daniel Garcia. The Death Riders just lost an 8-man tag last week on Collision against the Bang Bang Gang, so I don’t see why they would do any better here against two legendary tag teams, especially with this being Cope’s debut in Arena Mexico.
- Will Ospreay goes one-on-one against Mark Davis in a Mexico City Street Fight, with no outside interference allowed. Can the other 509 members of the Don Callis Family get away with interfering if they all put on luchador masks to hide their true identities? At any rate, I think the main story here will be Ospreay demonstrating his killer instinct and not hesitating to pull the trigger on a former friend who tried to break his neck not too long ago.
- AEW Women’s World Champion Willow Nightingale and the Brawling Birds join forces in a trios match tonight against Mercedes Mone and AEW Women’s World Tag Team Champions Divine Dominion. Are Jamie Hayter and Alex Windsor on the inside track for a tag team title match later this month at Wembley Stadium if they can pin Lena Kross or Megan Bayne in this match?
- AEW International Champion Kyle Fletcher defends his belt against Speedball Mike Bailey. If Don Callis’ oversized family follows the rules and leaves Ospreay alone tonight, perhaps they will instead focus all their resources on making sure Fletcher retains his belt.
- Tony Khan needed to find a way to get former world champions Chris Jericho and Darby Allin on this card, as well as CMLL’s top draw Mistico. He did so by having Kazuchika Okada, TNT Champion Kevin Knight, and Hechicero issue an open challenge for a trios match against any team of former world champions. Jericho, Darby, and Mistico must be on the same group chat because they agreed to this random match pretty quickly.
- Andrade El Idolo vs. Tommaso Ciampa vs. Komander is also on the card in a 3-way match, where the winner earns the number one entry in the Casino Gauntlet match at All In. I assume that low card guy Komander is here to get pinned, and that the only way Andrade loses is if scumbag MJF returns to Arena Mexico to screw him over.
- Finally, Kris Statlander vs. CMLL World Women’s Champion Persephone is also scheduled for tonight in a non-title match. There is a rumor that WWE is baffled by how often Persephone loses on AEW programming. Will Tony Khan really book her to lose again in Arena Mexico?

– Does AEW World Champion Kenny Omega plan to show up during tonight’s broadcast with a message for his All In challenger, Will Ospreay?
– After recently losing the women’s world title, how does Thekla plan to get herself booked in a match at AEW’s biggest show of the year in Wembley Stadium?
– The Motor City Machine Guns are now All Elite. Do any other ex-WWE stars like the New Day plan to debut in AEW for the biggest surprise of the night in Mexico?
– First round matches in the Continental Cup tournament begin this weekend on Collision. The full slate of opening round action includes Jon Moxley vs. Jack Perry, Eddie Kingston vs. Jake Doyle, Orange Cassidy vs. Matt Sydal, Kyle O’Reilly vs. Roderick Strong, Nigel McGuinness vs. Katsuyori Shibata, Jay White vs. David Finlay, Ace Austin vs. Claudio Castagnoli, and Brian Cage vs. Hechicero. Will Grand Slam Mexico feature any promos or angles with some of these stars to get fans excited for Tony Khan’s newest tournament?
