Die Folgen: Bayern’s 3-0 win over Eintracht Frankfurt (Bavarian Football Works)
Bayern Munich came storming out of the gates against a desperate Eintracht Frankfurt side and never let the home team get into the match.
The Bavarians continued their torrid run of play to snare another Bundesliga victory by taking down Die Adler 3-0 behind another strong showing from Vincent Kompany’s boys.
There is much to talk about, so let’s get to it. Here are some quick hitters on the match:
- As always, let’s begin with a look at the starting XI:
- The only mild surprise was the inclusion of Leon Goretzka over Aleksandar Pavlović. Otherwise, Sacha Boey returned at right-back and Konrad Laimer shifted to left-back.
- After a false start (!?) and an Eintracht Frankfurt turnover, Serge Gnabry sent in a cross that Luis Díaz hit home for a 1-0 lead inside the first minute. Eintracht Frankfurt goalkeeper Kauã Santos looked completely shellshocked. The goal occurred just seconds into the match.
- For anyone fearing a trap game, Bayern Munich did its absolute best to ensure that would not be the case!
- Bayern Munich was totally buzzing early on and looked completely dominant once again. This team is playing with so much confidence and cohesion at the moment.
- After a bit of sloppy play from Dayot Upamecano, Neuer relied on his timing and instincts with a big save in the 10th minute.
- Seconds later, Harry Kane was just offside to nullify a second goal.
- In the 14th minute, it looked like Jean-Mattéo Bahoya had taken advantage of some lax defending from Michael Olise for a goal, but it was (rightfully) ruled that Ritsu Doan used his hand to control the ball.
- What a freaking start to this one…
- Kane would then make amends for his offside with a goal on a terrific low shot from the right side to the far corner. Díaz was credited with the assist. Santos probably should have done much better on that one. What a nightmarish start for the young goalkeeper.
- Olise did not look comfortable in the match early, but the beauty of this attacking group is that other players were able to pick up the slack.
- It could be that Olise and Boey lack the chemistry that Olise has with Laimer, but it seemed like more than that. Olise just looked a bit tired and out of it. As has been said many times, with a big workload for Bayern and a heavy international schedule, Olise has more physical demands on his body than ever and needs to be monitored much more closely. Will Kompany be able to rest one of his stars more without causing a rift? Let’s hope so.
- By the time the first half ended, Eintracht Frankfurt was still plucky, but Bayern Munich was firmly in control of the game.
- Not even playing “Enter Sandman” by Metallica at halftime could get Eintracht Frankfurt going.
- Pavlović entered the match at halftime for Goretzka.
- Díaz and Gnabry combined for a nice opportunity in the 50th minute, which went wide. Those little moments of movement and creativity are what was missing from Bayern Munich last season.
- A few minutes later, Gnabry had a golden chance, but it deflected off the leg of an Eintracht Frankfurt defender. Seconds later, Kane smashed a shot off the post that should have been his second goal.
- Finally, it did appear as if Bayern Munich took its foot off the gas a bit.
- Boey had a rough game. There were some folks hoping that maybe Bayern Munich had unlocked something in him, but instead, he continues to prove that he is not good enough.
- Because everything was going far too smoothly, Kane was taken out by Santos during a collision and appeared to be in some pain late in the match. Kane was jogging tenderly afterward, but did come back on.
- Díaz added a third goal for Bayern Munich on a terrific finish. Raphaël Guerreiro had the assist after entering the match for Gnabry in the 71st minute.
- Overall, Eintracht Frankfurt is a fine team, but Bayern Munich is playing with irrational confidence…which is now instilling irrational confidence in some fans. While dangerous, it sure is fun! So, let it loose and enjoy this phase of the season where there does not seem to be an obstacle that Bayern Munich cannot overcome. It’s a hell of a time to be a Bayern Munich fan.

Looking back: Bayern’s interest in Sterling last summer (Sport Bild’s Christian Falk)
Bayern Munich had interest in Raheem Sterling and Sport Bild’s Christian Falk wants to take you inside how it all played out:
It’s true that Bayern also wanted to sign Raheem Sterling on deadline day, and this was perhaps the biggest surprise in this transfer market. You can see how nervous Bayern Munich was on the deadline day, in terms of whether or not they could get Nicolas Jackson. So there was the idea that, if you don’t get the one Chelsea player you’re after, perhaps you take another one. Sterling, of course, is a really big name, and everybody know he has quality. Everyone also knows that he has problems at the moment at Chelsea. Either way, Bayern Munich said he could be a good backup option. Perhaps they could get a big name even more cheaply. But, as we heard, Raheem Sterling made it clear he wasn’t interested in this transfer. So it was a topic, but in the end, it was clear that there would be no chance. So, a deal for Nicolas Jackson had to work.

Hamann says Wirtz needs to step up (Sky Germany’s Didi Hamann)
Didi Hamann did not mince words when assessing Florian Wirtz and the struggles he has had with Liverpool:
Florian Wirtz also needs to start performing better for Liverpool, slowly but surely. Nine games have been played and he has hardly done anything. Liverpool could have lost all the close games they won at the start of the season. They were also very lucky. It’s not entirely his fault, but he needs to make sure he decides one or two games, scores or provides assists before Christmas. Football in the Premier League is almost a different sport compared to the Bundesliga. There, he had hardly any opponents who really challenged him and was always the best on the pitch.
A few weeks into the season, national team player Florian Wirtz talks in an exclusive Sky Sport interview about his much-publicized transfer from Leverkusen to Liverpool and the pressure that the transfer fee puts on him. Now his opponents are giving even more when they play against him because they want to show him who’s boss. In his first few games, the ball was stolen from his feet more often than in the entire Bundesliga season. Something has to happen with him now. He has to deliver, otherwise the discussions will start not only externally, but also within the club.
As we know, Wirtz was benched from Liverpool’s starting XI vs. Chelsea on Saturday.

Dreesen says focus is on success (Welt am Sonntag via @iMiaSanMia)
Bayern Munich CEO Jan-Christian Dreesen was recently asked if he told board member for sport Max Eberl “good job” at any point lately and the executive did indicate that those are the kinds of conversations that occur between the duo.
“We’re in constant communication, and of course we’re both happy that FC Bayern has had such a good start. But we’re both trying to avoid overconfidence. It’s still early in the season,” Dreesen said.
Jackson lasered in on here and now (Sport Bild’s Maximilian Wessing and Tobi Altschäffl)
Bayern Munich back-up striker Nicolas Jackson just wants to focus on this season before worrying about his future.
“Right now, I’m just concentrating on giving my all this season. Bayern is one of the best clubs in the world – with great fans, a fantastic coach, and a real desire to win. If everything goes well and everyone is happy, I would, of course, like to stay. But now it’s about the present, working hard, and enjoying every moment on and off the pitch,” the Chelsea man said.
