If you needed an update on how much Mat Ishbia believes in Devin Booker, you’ve got one. While talking to what appeared to be a small crowd in an office building, the Phoenix Suns owner was asked if he would trade Devin Booker to the Detroit Pistons, considering Ishbia’s roots in Michigan. It doesn’t seem like the Michigan connection is giving him a reason to deal with the Suns’ all-time leading scorer.
Although he was not at an NBA press conference and appeared to be in a non-basketball-related conversation, as Ishbia said he was willing to take questions on a variety of topics, the Suns owner answered the question about the All-Star’s future with conviction, as he always has when questions about Booker’s future with the team have arisen.
Back in April, when the Suns were swept by the Oklahoma City Thunder in the first round of the Western Conference playoffs, he once again defended Booker, singing his praises and saying he would help lead the franchise to its first championship.
After a strong and surprising season by the Suns and Booker signing an extension with the team last summer, the volume of rumors surrounding Booker leaving or being traded has simmered down. But no matter the occasion, when he’s being recorded, the team’s owner appears to have his back, even when asked about sending him to Ishbia’s home state.
