While Roma’s domestic journey to the Champions League remains active, the last two matches—a 3-3 draw with Juventus and a 2-1 loss to Genoa—have dampened spirits across the Romaverse. The Giallorossi are in the middle of a four-team tie with Napoli, Como, and Juventus, with only five points separating third-place Napoli and sixth-place Juventus. So, while recent results haven’t extinguished the club’s Champions League hopes, the past two weeks have come at a significant opportunity cost: making the final
stretch more challenging.
However, there is another viable, albeit less predictable, path back to the CL: Winning the Europa League. After surviving the League Phase, Roma returns to European action today, where they’ll see a familiar face. Rather than traipsing around Western Europe, the Giallorossi will stay close to home in the Round of 16, squaring off against Bologna in a two-leg affair.
Will that familiarity be an advantage in their pursuit of another European title? We’re about to find out…
