Bayern Munich defender Josip Stanišić got the starting nod in the team’s 5-0 win over Red Bull Salzburg and, overall, thought the team did really well.
“We got into the game well in the first half. We then lost dominance a little bit and gave the ball away easily, so they created a bit of pressure as a result. We were better in the second half and took our chances. Ultimately it was a very successful start to the new year. We were able to recharge our batteries during the winter break. Everyone is
ready for the start of the second half of the season,” Stanišić said (as captured by @iMiaSanMia).
Stanišić will be an interesting figure to watch for the second half of the season. A starter for most of the Hinrunde, the Croatia international now finds himself in a mix with Konrad Laimer, Alphonso Davies, Hiroki Itō and, for now, Sacha Boey for playing time at the outside-back positions on each side of the pitch.
In addition, Stanišić figures to be the fourth center-back on the depth chart behind Dayot Upamecano, Jonathan Tah, and Kim Min-jae, though Itō could press for time there as well. If the 25-year-old cannot secure consistent playing time, he might start to wonder if there are other clubs where he can start regularly.
