Chelsea winger wing-back Pedro Neto has put pen to paper on a new contract today, extending his commitment to the Blues from 2031 to 2032. Of course, it’s not really the length of the contract that matters in these BlueCo deals (they’re all massive), it’s the presumptive payrise along with the symbolic show of commitment to the player from the club, and to the club from the player that does — especially in the wake of the Enzo Fernández drama this summer.
Like Enzo, Neto was linked with Manchester
City, as well as massive paydays in Saudi Arabia, during the transfer window, but while he was not an “untouchable”, he never pushed to leave and a move never came close to materializing. Chelsea slapped a £100m asking price on the 26-year-old speedster … but thankfully we’re seeing him provide value on the pitch instead. He’s already scored twice from his newfound position at right wing-back after getting to a career-best ten last campaign, and he’s even learned to care about conceding goals (if not necessarily preventing them just yet).
“It’s an unbelievable moment. From when I arrived, I have always felt like the people here helped me a lot. I feel like home here, I feel like I want to achieve more things here.
“I have had some good moments here as a group and as an individual, and now I want to have more of those moments. I’m really excited because I think we can achieve a lot of things together.”
