Darren Till isn’t going to waste his time on Jake Paul.
On Saturday night, Till picked up his third win of the year, brutally knocking out Luke Rockhold in the main event of Misfits Boxing 22. Not only did Till cement himself as one of the faces of Misfits, but he also claimed the the Misfits bridgerweight title. And he did so with ease.
“I felt like I could have knocked him out at any point,” Till said
at the post-fight press conference. “I wanted to just test things, go to the body, and stuff like that. No disrespect to him, but he felt very stiff in there. To be honest, it was really easy. It was too easy. I can’t lie, it was just so easy.”
Immediately after his win, Till laid the foundation for a possible matchup with former British boxing champion Carl Froch, hurling insults at him from the ring. It was a somewhat surprising choice for Till, as most assumed “The Gorilla” would set his sights on the top influencer boxing stars like Jake Paul or KSI. But Till says he’s being realistic about where he’s at right now.
“I don’t think I’m getting Jake Paul,” Till said. “I’m being a realist. Jake Paul’s not taking the fight. …
“Seriously, do you guys think he would take the fight? Because I’ll campaign for it right now if I see you nodding and say yeah. I’ll ask for it, but I just don’t think he’s going to take it.
“I’m not going to sit here and beg for a fight I’m not going to get. He’s a bigger star on a bigger trajectory. Why am I going to sit here and waste my breath and waste my time? He’s not taking it right now, so I won’t call for it. Andrew Tate won’t take it, Mike Perry, Jorge Masvidal, none of them want to take it. That’s the truth! … No one wants to fight!”
Misfits President Mams Taylor assured Till they have plans for him, especially since he’s their new champion. And those plans may, in fact, include Froch, who was ringside for the event. While the promotion has not made an official offer to Froch, they spoke openly about being interested in the matchup, and for Till, that’s the one he’s after next.
“I try to be a truth-teller all the time: Carl Froch is one of the best British fighters we’ve had in professional boxing,” Till said. “If you look back at his accolades, I have to be a realest. But he’s talking shit and I’m talking shit, so the fight should get made. But I just feel like the more I’m talking shit, he’s backing off. I’m the bigger guy and he knows I’ve got power. Is he a better boxer than me? Yeah, he is. But I just know with MMA things and stuff like that I can get him out of there.”
