We are just days away from the Dallas Cowboys kicking off their 2026 season on the road, taking on a division rival, the New York Giants.
Before the Cowboys go wheels up to New York, they took care of some business, inking tight end Brevyn Spann-Ford to a three-year contract extension to remain in Dallas. Spann-Ford has been one of the biggest risers for the Cowboys over the offseason, and his development was rewarded with a brand new three-year extension. They also took care of wide receiver Ryan
Flournoy with a 1-year extension.

Brevyn Spann-Ford is expected to make a big leap in 2026. Before doing so, the Cowboys lock him in for three more years ahead of week one.
FRISCO, Texas — The Cowboys and tight end Brevyn Spann-Ford have agreed to terms on an extension.
Spann-Ford, who was set to be a restricted free agent after the 2026 season, will now stay in Dallas through 2029.
During training camp, Spann-Ford grew into Dallas’ TE2 role behind Jake Ferguson, contributing as one of the offense’s best in-line blockers at the position and a key player on special teams.
With three days to go until the Cowboys kick off the NFL season, Spann-Ford now gets added comfort long-term with Dallas being confident in what he can bring to the offense.

The Dallas Cowboys first-round pick Caleb Downs is ready to make his NFL debut. From the sounds of it, it seems like he has a little extra motivation heading into New York.
Now, instead of playing for the Giants, Downs will play against them in his NFL debut when the Cowboys open the season against New York on Sunday Night Football. There’s already a lot of excitement for Downs about getting the chance to live his NFL dream. One of the biggest questions coming into Sunday Night Football is will Malik Nabers play? The Giants are doing a great job of keeping that information all in house ahead of their home opener.
The Dallas Cowboys got hit by major injury news when they were forced to place All-Pro guard Tyler Smith on Injured Reserve. But other than that, their starting lineup looks ready to go. The biggest injury mystery ahead of Sunday Night Football is on the New York Giants’ side of things.
That’s because Giants top wide receiver Malik Nabers is raising questions about his Week 1 availability despite being a full participant in practice in back-to-back days.
Despite Nabers’ participation in practice, the Giants have been non-committal on his status for Sunday. That’s mostly because of Nabers, who claims the organization is letting him make the call.
“I’m just focusing on today, had a really good day at practice,” Nabers told reporters. “I’ll let God tell me [when it’s time to return].”
How the Cowboys offensive line matches up with the Giants front
The Cowboys offensive line was going to have it’s hands full with the Giants pass rush before the Tyler Smith injury. With T.J. Bass in and Tyler Smith out, those problems could get louder on Sunday Night Football.
The biggest concern for the Cowboys offensive line this week is not difficult to find. New York can send Brian Burns, Abdul Carter and Kayvon Thibodeaux after Dak Prescott, and Dallas enters the season with questions at offensive tackle.
That matters most on the right side. Terence Steele allowed 52 pressures last season, the most among qualifying offensive tackles according to PFF, while his 54.9 pass-blocking grade ranked 76th out of 89 tackles. Dallas trading for Broderick Jones just before the season and immediately putting him into competition with Steele tells its own story about how the Cowboys view the position.
