By now you’ve all heard endless noise about the ongoing drama surrounding a signed fight to stage a long awaited fight between Tyson Fury and Anthony Joshua. While the fighters have been reported to have penned a deal for the fight to take place in the UK, the organizers and financiers behind the fight now want to stage the fight in New York City — something Team Joshua aren’t so enthusiastic about.
Matchroom promoter Eddie Hearn, who represents Joshua, has been all through the media saying that while
they’ve been disappointed in organizers not being particularly receptive to the idea of having the fight in the UK, they would be willing to consider the fight for New York but that it’s going to require some renegotiating as that’s not what they originally signed up for.
Now Hearn says that there’s hasn’t been much movement thus far, but things will need to get settled shortly if they intend on moving forward with this event, as related through ESPN.
“There is nothing agreed right now. Will need to make a decision this week. They have replied. They have our terms,” Hearn said. “We’re speaking multiple times a day but we’re running out of time if you want to do the fight on Nov. 20. They’re talking about a press conference next week. It’s Tuesday. The ball is in their court.”
Hearn would add that he remains hopeful the powers that be will ultimately change their minds and stage the fight at Wembley Stadium, but even he knows that it’s probably unlikely to happen at this point.
