Santi Denia has raved about Anthony Gordon ahead of Tuesday’s match between his Czechia side and England in the Nations League.
Gordon has been in great form over the international break for the Three Lions, scoring three goals and picking up an assist in three games.
Santi Denia, who previously spent many years working in Spain’s youth teams, says he’s been impressed by Gordon and just stopped short of comparing him to Lamine Yamal.
“Gordon? What a player!” Denia replies.“What a footballer, my God.
He’s at the same level as … I don’t know, I was going to say Lamine. Young, daring, one-on-one, speed. And what great work English football has done bringing through players like him,” he told The Guardian.
“Look, every country has its essence, you have to respect that, embrace it. You also can’t change overnight; success isn’t immediate, it’s a process. You will make mistakes but you have to be clear where you’re going. In 15 years with the inferiores, we developed, evolved, adapted. See what other federations do. That’s not copying, it’s learning.”
Gordon has been receiving plenty of praise over the break for his performances for England and Barca will be hoping he can continue to shine once he returns.
The winger has managed four assists for Barca in seven games but is still waiting to score his first goal.
