The Bears activated left tackle Ozzy Trapilo from the Physically Unable to Perform (PUP) list on Sunday. As a result of the activation, he is now able to participate in practices and preseason games.
Trapilo ruptured his patellar tendon in the Bears’ Wild Card win over the Packers in January. For much of the 2026 offseason, the anticipation was that the 24-year-old would miss most, if not all of the 2026-27 NFL season. However, it appears he’s now healthy enough to be activated, which figures to make
him ready for Week 1 of the Bears’ upcoming season.
Now that Trapilo has been activated from the PUP list, he cannot be placed back on the list. If he happens to suffer another major injury this season, his future injury designation would have to be the injured reserve.
A second-round pick out of Boston College in 2025, Trapilo made the switch from right tackle to left tackle leading up to his rookie year. He started at left tackle for the Eagles in 2022, but he spent each of his final two seasons at right tackle. Considering he had to switch sides and adjust to the NFL level of speed and physicality, he performed quite admirably.
Trapilo’s 73.3 PFN OL Impact Score ranked No. 66 among all qualified NFL offensive tackles. The eighth offensive tackle off the board in the 2025 NFL Draft, he graded fifth among all rookie tackles last season. He graded better than players selected ahead of him like Josh Simmons, Aireontae Ersery, and Josh Conerly Jr.
Should Trapilo be ready for Week 1, it’s reasonable to assume he’ll start at left tackle for the Bears, as he did to finish up last season. Braxton Jones has taken a majority of starting reps at left tackle in his absence, with the likes of Jedrick Wills Jr. and Kiran Amegadjie also seeing reps there.
