Hey, the Guardians figured out a way to pitch in Fenway and scored a ton of runs tonight, beating Boston 8-1 to get back to .500. Happy day.
Joey Cantillo was really the story of the night, striking out seven, allowing five hits, two walks and one run in six innings. To me, this was his most impressive start of his young career and gives me hope he may be a #3 starter someday, after all. If he can just live in the strike zone and utilize that killer changeup like this, the Guardians have something
special.
Speaking of something special, George Valera got his first hit as a big leaguer and immediately announced he would give the ball to his mom. Just listen to this kid in interviews and it’s impossible not to root for him.
Gabriel Arias hit a two-run homer raising his wRC+ to 81. Meanwhile, Bryan Rocchio got another hit and is right around 100 wRC+ since he returned to the big leagues in July. I like his chances of being next year’s starting shortstop and I’m so glad he used his demotion to Columbus wisely.
Steven Kwan was 3 for 5 with a double, CJ Kayfus was 2 for 3 with two doubles, and Bo Naylor was 2 for 4 with two doubles. A good night offensively for almost everyone but Jose, who remains mired in an unusual slump for him.
Jakob Junis and Erik Sabrowski were excellent in relief and the Guardians now head to Tampa to play in a minor league stadium for four games. They are trying to keep us invested, folks, props to them.
