How long can Bayern Munich wait to renew Harry Kane? The 32-year-old striker has been one of the best players in the world this season, netting over 50 goals and coming up with big, match winning performances against Bayer Leverkusen and Real Madrid in crucial knockout round ties.
Yet, as it stands, he will leave the Bavarians in 12 months’ time. Kane’s contract at Bayern runs until 2027 and there have been little signs of any negotiations happening. Instead, board member for sport Max Eberl has openly
indicated that Bayern will wait until the summer to begin talks. The Englishman seems happy in Munich and Bayern are of course happy with him. Furthermore, the former Tottenham Hotspur striker will turn 33 in the summer. It is important to not be too hasty when discussing the future of an aging player. Still, leaving the future of the club’s star striker open like this will naturally leave many Bayern fans nervous.
But perhaps the saga will be quick and be done shortly. According to Florian Plettenberg, as captured by @iMiaSanMia, Bayern do wish to finalize the contract before the summer:
Bayern would like to finalize Harry Kane’s new contract before the World Cup [start date June 11]. The club has received very positive signals from the striker and his family (brother Charlie and father Pat representing him).
Rewarding Kane with a new deal would be a just reward for his glorious form this season and will likely see adulation from fans. Given the World Cup is less than 2 months away, however, this would represent a very quick turnaround for negotiations to be finalized. Whether Kane is open to such a quick agreement or agree to Bayern’s proposed salary may still be open. But Bayern will not be so relaxed going into these negotiations if they were not confident. The smart money is on Kane signing a new contract to remain in Munich.
