The New York Yankees have their backs up against the wall just one game into their 2025 playoff experience. An excruciating loss in Game 1 of the American League Wild Card Series at home against the Boston Red Sox has them in a do-or-die situation tonight in Game 2.
Carlos Rodón will try to keep the season alive, but more importantly, the offense is going to have to do better than one run in nine innings. The Yankees won’t have to face Garrett Crochet again, though they still might have their work
cut out for them with Brayan Bello, who has handled them well in his young career. But if they can extend the season to a winner-take-all Game 3, then anything can happen, especially with it being quite unclear who the Red Sox would deploy against rookie Cam Schlittler.
It’s easy to be down in the dumps right now, but fans still can still hold out hope of a Division Series showdown with the Toronto Blue Jays, who would be on deck if the Yanks survive. Although the task is somewhat daunting given the playoff atmosphere, it’s also fairly simple from a thousand-foot view: win two in a row at home. They were 50-31 at Yankee Stadium in 2025. This can happen!
So let’s hope that comes to pass. If it does, then MLB’s most recent press release will become relevant. First-pitch times and TV network info have been revealed for the first two games of the Division Series. Games 3 and 4 would be at Yankee Stadium on October 7th and 8th, and a possible Game 5 would be back in Toronto on Friday, October 10th; first-pitch times are not available for those yet. Note that the below info is only relevant if the Yankees advance, as the info is slightly different if Boston makes it.
