Welcome to the FC Bayern Campus Round Up, where the matches of Bayern Munich’s U-17, U-19 and U-23 squads are recapped, line ups are provided and the highlights to usually each match are hyperlinked on top of the score lines of the corresponding matches. Unfortunately, Bayern did not release the highlights for the U-17s. Information on the U-17 and U-19 matches is provided by the official FC Bayern website here and here respectively. The U-23s, however, did not play a match this week. If you wish
to learn more about the format of the U-17 and U-19’s youth leagues, you can find more info here. Additionally, the U-19 match is free to watch here on YouTube, provided one lives in Germany or has a VPN. Without further ado, here is the round up:
SC Freiburg U-19 1-3 FC Bayern U-19
Bayern lineup: Prescott – Wijks, Lambe, Pavlić, Ofli (90. Moumouni) – Göttlicher (90. Matosveic), Santos – Cardozo (66. Hentcho Nseke), Olychenko (78. Schmid), Chemwor (90. Afanou) – Gashi (46. Snip).
Goals: 1:0 Klaus (19.), 1:1 Pavlić (47.), 1:2 Göttlicher (69.), 1:3 Afanou (90.+6)
Unused players: Ruland
Unavailable players: Oluwaseyi Wilson, Noah Codjo-Evora, Michel Ekodi, Frank Egwuatu, Luis Schäfer, Wisdom Mike*, Cassiano Kiala* (*part of Bayern’s first team squad)
This was a good reaction to the disappointing midweek loss to Chelsea FC. Bayern Munich’s U-19s traveled to SC Freiburg, knowing they were level on points with the hosts (though with a game in hand) and that a win here would give them a huge advantage at the top of the table. The team put in a performance to match that ambition early on, dominating the match throughout, playing pretty football and restricting Freiburg to nothing more than half chances.
Unfortunately, one of those half chances went in. Elias Klaus had a lot to do when receiving the ball at the edge of Bayern’s box but a brilliant touch and finish from Freiburg’s #10 saw the hosts go in front. Bayern continued to dominate and regularly found themselves in dangerous positions around the box but failed to make much of those opportunities. It must also be said Freiburg were poor, timid in pushing out and too slow in closing down Bayern’s players. This was not their best performance. Bayern’s equalizer right at the start of the second half set them on their way and they kept pushing until the second and third goals went in.
Bayern U-17 5-3 VFB Stuttgart U-17
Bayern lineup: Podar-Stiube – Ajayi, Gashi, Pavic, Horvath – Danioko (58. Hentcho Nseke), Zogaj (84. El Allali), Osmani, Horoszczak (58. El-Chaar) – von Taube (90. Burghardt), Schaff.
Goals: 1:0 von Taube (11.), 2:0 von Taube (20.), 2:1 Serdiuk (30.), 3:1 von Taube (49.), 3:2 Aydin (54.), 4:2 Schaff (72.), 5:2 Hentcho Nseke (83.), 5:3 Speidel (88.).
With 4 wins from 4 games, Bayern’s U-17s have already built up a 3 point lead at the top of the table over Stuttgarter Kickers’ U-17s (and yes, that is a different team than VFB Stuttgart). Philipp von Taube is the obvious standout player here, notching a hat trick and taking his total for the season to 6 goals and 2 assists in just 250 minutes this season. The U-17s’ next match will, in fact, be against Stuttgarter Kickers, as Bayern travel to their nearest competitors. A win there would see Bayern take a big step towards securing the top spot of the group.
