Yes, I know the Rebels have already won two games this season, which means this should be the third edition of the 4-2-5 Report for 2025, but it’s the first so… hey better late than never right?!
For those of you that have been here, welcome back. If it’s your first venture inside the 4-2-5, then we are glad you are here. The 4-2-5 Report is a weekly, more in-depth, post game place to revel in the four best plays, two best players and five most interesting stats from the previous Saturday’s contest.
The cardiac Rebs did not fail to provide for this week’s post, so let’s jump right into it.
4 Plays of the Game
Let’s be honest, this might end up being the play of the entire season. I just knew when we went three and out on the preceding drive that we were destined to lose this game by one. Sure enough, Arkansas is driving it down our throats while melting the clock.
Insert TJ Dottery. The defensive captain came up with one of those plays on the defensive side of the ball that you will remember for years. Think the Patrick Willis pile drive or Senquez Golson endzone interception or even Jayden Daniels getting destroyed.
Guts and Nuts. Simple as that. Austin Simmons is tough as nails. It was clear after that option keeper that the defender got Simmons’ ankle and dude could barely move. There was no chance he was letting Kiffin take him out and it didn’t seem as if Lane was in a hurry to bring in the third string QB. Just like the Georgia game last season, Simmons came off the bench for an absolutely crucial TD drive.
From avoiding the sack to Cayden Lee doing Cayden Lee things, this play made me jump off my couch and fist pump uncontrollably. The way Chambliss climbs in the pocket and finds Lee wide open to his left after a defender leaves Lee to cover the back in the flat, is just impressive. I don’t really have any other words for it.
There is nothing special or jaw dropping about this play, but it was so important. The Razorbacks opted to go on offense first and their opening drive ended in a missed field goal. Ole Miss responding on their first drive with a touchdown went a long way for the confidence for everyone in Trinidad Chambliss to lead this team. Lacy might put himself in the conversation for most rushing touchdowns in a season if he continues to score at the rate he is.
2 Players of the Game
Trinidad Chambliss
Was there any question here? All Chambliss did was account for 415 yards of offense and three touchdowns. He was only sacked once and did not turn the ball over. In fact, he rarely, if at all, even put the ball in harms way. Sure he dominated the DII level, but you heard the commentators say it all night, this is the SEC. He sure did not seem to care. It’s entirely possible he just won the starting QB job for the remainder of the season regardless of the status of Austin Simmons’ ankle.
Wydett Williams Jr.
The second player was tough to choose. TJ Dottery had the game saving strip, Sunny P led in total tackles and Trey Wallace was that dude again. However, it seemed like every time I looked up, Williams was making a play on defense. He led the team with six solo tackles, a pass break up and recovered the game clinching fumble induced by Dottery. The transfer senior from Louisiana Monroe and Delta State had a major presence against the Razorbacks, something Pete Golding will need all season long.
5 Interesting Stats
- Trinidad Chambliss led the Rebels in both passing and rushing yards. This was the first time a player had done this since John Rhys Plumlee did it against LSU in 2019, running wild for 212 yards.
- The Razorbacks outgained the Rebels in the game despite the loss. The last time Ole Miss won a game while being outgained by the opponent? 2021 when the Rebels beat none other than Arkansas 52-51 in a game that also came down to a defensive stand for the Rebs.
- The Rebels are 3-0 for the fifth straight season. The longest streak since 1956-62.
- In 2017 Jordan Ta’amu made his debut for Ole Miss and absolutely torched the Razorbacks. Chambliss put up the most total yards and passing yards for a first time starter since that contest. Must be something about those Hogs.
- This is the first 2-0 SEC start since 2022, when Ole Miss started 3-0 in conference play before finishing 4-4
