According to a report from Sport Bild journalist Tobi Altschäffl, the prospect of a signing bonus is still a major issue between Bayern Munich and center-back Dayot Upamecano. Both sides appear to want
to get a deal done, but this has become an obstacle:
The negotiations surrounding Dayot Upamecano (26), whose Bayern Munich contract expires next summer, have dragged on for months. The supervisory board currently has no figures available. In the past, there has been controversial discussion within the board regarding Max Eberl’s (52) handling of expiring contracts.
The case of Alphonso Davies (24) in particular caused discontent: The player and his agent were allegedly promised figures that the supervisory board had not yet approved. Ultimately, an extension until 2030 was agreed upon in February, but a hefty signing bonus is said to have been paid – reportedly a €17 million signing bonus.
This figure could now become both a crucial factor and a problem in the Upamecano transfer saga: The defender feels comfortable in Munich, and the club even claims that it was only through this atmosphere and the support he received during difficult times that he developed into his current class. However, with Moussa Sissoko, he has an experienced agent at his side who knows the market extremely well. Liverpool are interested, and Upamecano is also on the radar of Inter Milan, Real Madrid , and Chelsea.
This information does bring up some questions on Upamecano’s comments from the weekend where he said the following.
“It has nothing to do with money. I talk a lot with Max Eberl and Christoph Freund. I’m happy here, I’m having a good season, I’m doing my job, and I’m giving everything for this club. Let’s see what happens,” Upamecano remarked.
For its part, Bayern Munich is continuing to look at players like impending free agent Marc Guéhi from Crystal Palace, along with Borussia Dortmund’s Nico Schlotterbeck, whose deal with BVB ends in 2027.
The priority, however, is to get a deal done with Upamecano. Many fans are hoping that will happen soon.
