Before Chris Olave, Michael Thomas, Brandin Cooks, Marques Colston and Lance Moore, there was Joe “Hollywood” Horn. Later today, the charismatic former New Orleans Saints wide receiver will be inducted into the Louisiana Sports Hall of Fame in Natchitoches.
Born in New Haven, CT, Horn attended Douglas Byrd High School in Fayetteville, NC, where he stood out playing football at several positions which included quarterback, tailback,
wide receiver, and punter. Horn played two years at Itawamba Community College in Fulton, MS, as well as 2 years in the CFL briefly with the Baltimore Stallions, Shreveport Pirates and the Memphis Mad Dogs.
Horn began his NFL career after being selected in the 5th round (135th overall) of the 1996 NFL Draft by the Chiefs. He spent 4 seasons in Kansas City before signing with the Saints as an unrestricted free agent in 2000.
During his first season in New Orleans, Horn ranked among the NFL’s top 10 in receptions (7th), receiving yards (8th) and touchdown receptions (9th), helping the Saints finish 10-6, win the NFC West and earn their first playoff victory in franchise history.
During his 7 seasons with the Saints, Horn was selected to the Pro-Bowl 4 times (2000, 2001, 2002, and 2004). Through 102 games, he scored the 3rd most receiving touchdowns (50) and compiled the 2nd most receptions (523) and receiving yards (7,622) in franchise history.
On June 24, 2010, the team signed Horn to a one-day contract as he officially retired from the NFL as a member of the Saints. Later that year, he was inducted into the Saints Hall of Fame.
Joe Horn’s accomplishments as a New Orleans Saint will be forever recognized through his induction into the 2026 class of the Louisiana Sports Hall of Fame.
