Player Overview
Jake Slaughter is a zone-blocking center with good footwork. He thrives in pass protection where he combines his footwork and quick eyes to find and mirror blockers. This helps Slaughter neutralize stunts and blitzes. He plays with good balance
and play strength to withstand the point of attack. As a three-year starter, Jake anchored the center position for the Gators and was comfortable with protection calls. Slaughter’s limitations come from him having good, not great physical traits for the position. Some believe he is too light to play center at the next level. Other critiques are his subpar hand-usage and tendency to lean too much into run blocks. Notably, some don’t believe he hits with enough pop in the run game to be effective in the NFL. Slaughter may not have a good enough anchor to handle the better interior rushers.
Jake Slaughter projects to work in a pass-focused offense that plays into his zone-blocking strength. He has the tools to be a starter if he proves he can consistently withstand the power of pro-level defensive lineman. Until then, he is a serviceable backup. He is predicted to be selected between the 3rd-4th round.

How He Fits on the Commanders
The front office decided to move on from Tyler Biadasz and add a new face at the center position. If the Commanders are shifting to a more zone-oriented blocking scheme, Jake Slaughter is a value selection target in the middle rounds. Slaughter possesses the IQ and comfortability to make line and pass protection calls. He can be called upon to start or sit behind a veteran center for a few years to work on bulk, anchor, and power. Even if the Commanders start an existing lineman at center, Slaughter would be a viable depth piece for the offensive line room.
