The bad news we all feared came out today when MSU Head Coach Pat Fitzgerald announced that starting running back Cam Edwards would miss the remainder of the season due to a knee injury suffered during Saturday’s game. There has been no official word as to what the injury was exactly, but we do know it is his right knee.
The Spartans are losing their best offensive weapon and will now have to turn to Jaziun Patterson and Marvis Parrish to fill his shoes. For Edwards, a senior, it is likely his college
career is over. He was a part of the UConn Huskies program for four years before arriving in East Lansing this summer. A healthy and productive season could have led Edwards to the NFL Draft. Now, we must see if he is still able to follow the rules in place at the beginning of his college career and receive a medical redshirt to return in 2027. That is, of course, if he is not worried about his draft potential being impacted by this injury.
We wish Cam a full and speedy recovery and hope that he still has a bright football future ahead of him, wherever that may be.
