That’s three weeks in a row the Chicago Bears have stumbled in the red zone, and it’s something head coach Ben Johnson recognized and addressed in his opening remarks at his postgame press conference before he even fielded any questions about their win over the New York Jets.
“Obviously, we got to get better in the red zone,” he said. “It’s been really three weeks in a row that we’ve left points out there. So that’ll be a major emphasis for us going forward, as well as the turnovers. We can’t have
those on offense, but overall, like I said, great job finding a way to get to three and one.”
The Bears gave the ball away twice, once on a Tyson Bagent interception, and once on a D’Andre Swift fumble. Swift seemed to be sidelined after that, and I’d imagine Bagent’s film session will be ugly, because he had a couple of other poor decisions. But all in all, it was a solid performance for Chicago’s number two QB.
The Bears have one of the best offenses in the NFL, and each week they’ve made mistakes that cost them points. Whether that be penalties, execution, or bad play calls, they need to self-scout, clean some stuff up, and take the offense to the next level.
And considering no team in the NFL has more yards than they do through 4 games, what would that next level look like?
