The latest
The Kansas City Chiefs are done with training camp and now have only two preseason games left to experience live, full-speed contact in a competitive setting.
On Saturday, the Chiefs will play the Tampa Bay Buccaneers in Week 2 of the NFL preseason. Some aspects of the team need to look sharper than they did in the 20-12 defeat to the Los Angeles Rams in the exhibition opener.

They pressured him
on just three of his 25 drop-backs in the preseason opener last weekend. He completed 20 of 22 throws when operating from a clean pocket; and he was 1 of 3 for 5 yards when actually pressured.
The disruption is everything.
Chris Jones and George Karlaftis saw limited time for the Chiefs, so you might be inclined to dismiss those numbers — except that the very solution to the Chiefs generating more pressure is the supporting cast generating more pressure.

3. Cornerback Nohl Williams wrapped up a strong camp with multiple interceptions.
Williams finished training camp on a high note with multiple interceptions on Thursday, the first of which saw the second-year defensive back jump a route and make a diving pick.
Both interceptions took place during a “defensive” segment of practice, meaning the results were supposed to skew toward that side of the ball, but Williams still had to make the plays, and just like he did throughout the offseason training program, the former third-round pick made the most of his chances.
13-year tradition: Kansas City Chiefs host historic turnout of veterans at training camp | KCTV5
The Kansas City Chiefs hosted military members on the final day of training camp, a tradition the team has held for 13 years.
“It’s great to have all the military people here today,” coach Andy Reid said.
Largest turnout yet
Chiefs V.P. Chuck Castellano said this year’s event was the biggest yet.
“We have over 200 military veterans and support staffers who are here,” Castellano said

4. The Chiefs have a big depth concern in one area
While most of the offseason talk has centered on the Chiefs’ lack of perceived depth at wide receiver, a different position group appears to be the bigger red flag right now: interior offensive line.
The Chiefs have signaled this with their actions when a few guys have been held out of practices because of injuries. Veteran Jaylon Moore and undrafted rookie Kahlil Benson have been competing for the starting right tackle job, but it’s been telling that both have been shuffled to right guard during recent drills — an indication coaches see them as more capable backups inside than roster vets like Mike Caliendo and Hunter Nourzad.
Kansas City Chiefs Win Total Projection for 2026 Season (Is the Chiefs Era Over?) | Sports Illustrated
In my NFL betting preview article, 32 Bets for 32 Teams, I made the case for betting on the UNDER 10.5 wins for the Chiefs:
I don’t think this is automatically going to be a bounce-back season for the Kansas City Chiefs. Yes, Patrick Mahomes got hurt late in the season last year, and they lost plenty of one-score games, but I wasn’t impressed by this team as a whole even before the Mahomes injury. The team was just 15th in the league in DVOA, and Mahomes ranked just 21st in the league in completion percentage over expected. Their defense wasn’t a top 10 unit either, ranking 12th in EPA and 14th in success rate.

Cowboys, Saints fined $500K each for brawls in joint practice | ESPN
Fights occurred on both fields after the teams split up to work their offenses and defenses against each other. Punches were thrown on both fields, and play had to be stopped multiple times on one field due to Saints offensive players and Cowboys defensive players rushing over to join the fray. One player tossed a helmet in one instance and in another skirmish, a player was body-slammed to the ground.
Cowboys coach Brian Schottenheimer and Saints coach Kellen Moore discussed at one point whether to call practice early, but they decided to end the session on time.
Bengals’ Joe Burrow ‘trying to manifest’ return to Super Bowl: ‘I’m tired of saying next year’ | NFL.com
“I’m trying to put it out in the world; I’m trying to manifest it,” Burrow said Thursday after a joint practice with the Bears, via The Cincinnati Enquirer. “I’m trying to show our guys the urgency that I have, and that I want us to have as an organization to go and make it happen. You can keep pushing it down the road, or you can talk about it now and say this is the year. I’m tired of saying next year, next year, next year. This is it.”
Klint Kubiak not ready to name the Raiders’ starting quarterback | Pro Football Talk
Raiders head coach Klint Kubiak is not ready to name his starting quarterback.
Fernando Mendoza struggled in Thursday night’s preseason game, while Kirk Cousins sat out, and afterward Kubiak was asked if that means Cousins is the starter. Kubiak wouldn’t go that far.
“We’ve got another week of playing. I don’t want anyone to be comfortable in their job,” Kubiak said. “It should always be that way for all positions. So, let’s keep going forward.”

Latest Chiefs injury update includes Ashton Gillotte rupturing his plantar fascia
That sounds like a severe injury for a defensive lineman, although there are still over three weeks until the Week 1 game. Reid has not made any injury — including starting right guard Trey Smith’s hip issue — out to be a serious problem.
“These aren’t extended injuries; they’ll be back,” Reid said later in his press conference. “Just nicks-and-bruises type things. They’re working through them and back going.”
