Rutgers has landed an all-AAC Linebacker in the transfer portal, as former Rice linebacker Ty Morris has decided to commit to the Scarlet Knights. After the losses of Sam Robinson to the portal and Dariel Djabome to graduation, Rutgers needed to replace some production at linebacker in the transfer portal. By landing one of the better linebackers in the group of five, they hope they can do just that.
The 6-foot-2, 229-pound linebacker from Houston, Texas, played in nine games during his freshman season
in 2023. During that season, he is credited with nine total tackles and one shared sack.
Morris would break out in the 2024 season, winning All-AAC second team honors according to College Football News. He recorded 56 tackles, 7.5 tackles for loss, and four sacks. His production took another jump during his junior season, as he recorded 88 tackles, 9.5 TFLs, 2.5 sacks, two forced fumbles, three pass breakups, and one fumble recovery, and earning an all-AAC honorable mention in the process.
He received interest from West Virginia and Houston since entering the portal, and was supposed to take official visits to both of them later in the week. He comes to Rutgers with one year of eligibility remaining.
With the addition of Morris to the squad, the Knights have now added five defensive transfers via the portal, with many more likely to come before the portal closes.
