Looking for some good news? Well, too bad.
The Falcons lost Tyler Goodson, who was a productive runner and receiver this summer and was the team’s de facto third running back, to the Dallas Cowboys. Because Goodson was on the practice squad, Dallas was free to pluck him and did so to help out their thin running back corps. The Falcons now have just two running backs on the roster—one of them is Bijan Robinson, to be fair—and Cash Jones on the practice squad as depth.
The Falcons knew they were taking a chance with their roster construction, which saw them only keep Bijan and Brian Robinson Jr., but probably didn’t expect to lose their veteran insurance this quickly. The team will almost certainly be calling up Zacch Pickens or Zach Harrison off the practice squad to replace Da’Shawn Hand, who may be lost for the season, and will therefore be able to easily add a player. The problem is that the player they add is unlikely to be as well-rounded as Goodson, who did a nice job this summer and offers you plenty as a runner, receiver, and returner.
Look for former Brown Jerome Ford, who overlapped with Kevin Stefanski and Tommy Rees in Cleveland, and special teamer/capable receiving back Travis Homer as potential free agent additions. I doubt the Falcons will go very long without adding to the room.
We wish Goodson well, but it sure is a bummer to lose him.
