Another Bundesliga matchday, another Bayern Munich masterclass.
Vincent Kompany’s men put Eintracht Frankfurt to the sword, scoring 3 unanswered goals and dominating on every front. Eintracht had no chance from the beginning, and the scoreline sums up the game quite well. Aside from a few missed opportunities from close range, Bayern couldn’t have had a better B tier effort. This certainly wasn’t their best game, but it was plenty enough to thoroughly dismantle Frankfurt.
Which leaves us with some
excellent candidates for the match awards.
Jersey Swap: Sacha Boey
I do not like picking a Bayern player for the jersey swap, but tonight I have no choice. Frankfurt never really threatened Bayern at any stage, and this was a stroll through the park for the Bavarians. However, Sacha Boey certainly made it seem more of a struggle on the right flank, with some poorly timed challenges, terrible call control, and being dispossessed at crucial moments, leading to counter-attacking opportunities. Olise practically manned the right flank all alone, and at one point seemed to hesitate passing to Boey out of fear of the ball being lost in the process.
Not exactly the confidence builder he may have hoped for, and he certainly needs to step his game up if he is to have a future at this club. Stanisic’s return may well push him back to the dugout.
Der Kaiser: Jonathan Tah
Having always been among Tah’s harsher critics, what I saw from him this game certainly did not provide much to criticize him for. In fact, it provided the opposite: qualities to appreciate and applaud. For one, he was solid and composed, and was positioned perfectly on several occasions to snuff out an Eintracht attack before something of value came out of it. With a 95% passing accuracy, 9 major defensive contributions, and a blocked shot (all stats from Fotmob), Tah was as solid as you can expect a Bayern defender to be.

Der Fussballgott: Joshua Kimmich
Spraying passes, controlling the tempo, providing an outlet in outnumbered situations… you name it. Joshua Kimmich stood out both in the eye-test and the stat sheet… covered the most distance, completed the most passes (96), completed 7/12 long balls (!!!), and was heavily involved in the buildup to the first two goals. His ability to ping accurate balls over the opposition defense from deep to create numerical advantages for his teammates is unparalleled and was on full display today. Aside from an errant pass that almost led to a dangerous opportunity for Frankfurt, he barely set a foot wrong and even made an impressive block in the end to deny a dangerous Frankfurt chance. Impeccable showing from the engine of this team.
Meister of the Match: Luis Díaz
His name is Luis,
He’s from Barrancas,
And he plays with so much poise
His name is Lucho,
He’s Bayern’s hero
He’s scored two
And they’ve scored zero
Scintillating performance. Two goals and an assist, i.e., 3 goal contributions. It’s early days, but Bayern’s left wing seems to have the perfect fit, the perfect successor to Ribéry (I love Coman, but man was so injury prone). His twists and turns in tight spaces, the way he always directly attacks his man instead of passing backwards, and his tenacity to win the ball back as soon as it is lost… Bayern’s wings are in able hands again.
Tonight is all Lucho’s.
Bayern Munich’s away match against Eintracht Frankfurt in the Bundesliga had all the makings of a dreaded trap game.
The Bavarians were scorching hot, entering a break, and playing against a desperate team coming off of a midweek embarrassment in the Champions League. Everything was lined up for a letdown…until it wasn’t.
Bayern Munich kept up its intensity and did not let anything distract it from the main goal — securing a win. The Bavarians did just that in a 3-0 victory. Let’s get into the nitty gritty of the match. Check out what we have on tap for this edition of the Bavarian Podcast Works — Postgame Show:
