Jaylin Sellers, Mikey Williams, Keyshawn Hall and Mostapha Thiam were all UCF Knights last season. Through nine games, UCF has looked solid without them this season.
The Knights currently sit with an 8-1 record and are off to the team’s best start in the Johnny Dawkins era. Even with having eight wins, the team may look better if one or a couple of the former Knights were on the team.
All four players transferred to a new school for this season. Now, it’s time to see how each of them is doing at their
new school.
Jaylin Sellers — Providence
Sellers only played three games for the Knights last season while battling injuries. Sellers transferred to play for the Providence Friars this season. So far, Sellers has been productive in Rhode Island.
Sellers’ 16.3 points per game are second on Providence’s roster. Against the Butler Bulldogs in Providence’s last game, Sellers tied a season-high with 26 points. Sellers has scored double figures in 11 of the 12 games he’s played.
Mikey Williams — Sacramento State
Williams didn’t get much playing time for UCF last season and transferred to play for the Sacramento State Hornets this season. In California’s capital, and under the tutelage of another former NBA point guard turned head coach, Mike Bibby, Williams has improved big time.
In 10 games, Williams’s 14.1 points per game is third on the Hornets’ roster, a big improvement from his 5.1 points per game last season. Williams’ 5.2 assists per game lead the Hornets’ roster, and his 1.3 steals per game are the second most on the roster. Williams needed to show improvement after a rough season at UCF, and he has.
Hall was a big bright spot for UCF last season by leading the team in points (18.8) and rebounds (7.1). However, Hall transferred to play for the Auburn Tigers for this season. Auburn was Hall’s fourth different school that he’s played for in his college career.
Keyshawn Hall — Auburn
At Auburn, Hall is dominating. Hall’s 20.9 points and 8.8 rebounds per game lead Auburn. Hall is a key reason why Auburn is ranked in the top 25.
Hall has led Auburn in scoring in four of the team’s 11 games this season.
Moustapha Thiam — Cincinnati
Thiam was solid as a freshman at UCF last season when he averaged 10.4 points per game, but he transferred to the rival Cincinnati Bearcats for this season. So far, Thiam is battling in a shaky season.
While Thiam’s defense has been excellent, averaging 2 blocks and 1.3 steals per game, his offense has taken a drop. Thiam’s points and assists per game, and his shooting and free throw percentages are all down from last season. Thiam is averaging under 10 points per game.
As the season goes on, all four former Knights can be better at their schools. Each player also has the ability to be a main part of their team’s roster.
