Washington Mystics center Shakira Austin is one of four players who will represent USA Basketball’s women’s 3X3 team in the 2025 FIBA 3×3 AmeriCup. In addition, Naz Hillmon and Allisha Gray of the Atlanta
Dream and Veronica Burton of the Golden State Valkyries will represent Team USA.
Games will be in Leon, Mexico from Nov. 27-30 starting with men’s 3×3 games. The American women will start tomorrow when they play Brazil and Jamaica in pool play. If the Americans advance, they will play quarterfinals through the medal round games on Sunday, Nov. 30.
Monumental Basketball Special Advisor Elena Delle Donne is the women’s 3×3 team’s managing director. The goal for the Americans isn’t just to win AmeriCup. It’s also to build a sustainable pipeline for players in the 3X3 game, which is different from the traditional 5×5 full court game where countries that aren’t necessarily well known in basketball have often won big. While the American women won the gold medal for 5×5 basketball in the 2024 Olympics, the American women only won bronze in 3X3. The American men also won the 2024 Olympic gold medal in the 5×5 game, but the Netherlands won the gold in 3×3.
