The Wisconsin Badgers lost 24-10 to the Michigan Wolverines on Saturday afternoon and were served a steady portion of humble pie by an 18-year-old true freshman quarterback.
Michigan QB Bryce Underwood
was often productive and on the money, displaying top-tier arm strength and running abilities throughout the afternoon. Underwood was 19-of-28 for 270 yards with one passing touchdown. Numbers that could have been even better if not for three drops from Michigan wideouts. Underwood was cooking from short, intermediate, and deep, with notable long balls of 33 yards to Donaven McCulley and 32 to Andrew Marsh.
After the game, Wisconsin head coach Luke Fickell was asked about Underwood’s showing.
“He’s a good football player. They do a good job with him, being smart, putting him in situations where it’s not too much on him right now,” Fickell said.
Fickell believes Underwood will only get better from here.
“He’ll grow, and grow, and grow. He’s as talented as there is. Not just throwing the football, running the football,” Fickell explained. “Give him credit, he made some of those plays today. He didn’t put the ball in jeopardy very much, and that’s probably a recipe for success for them.”
Next up for Underwood and Michigan is a road showdown against the 4-1 USC Trojans. If Underwood is ‘as talented as there is,’ as Fickell believes, it’ll mean the Wolverines vs Trojans game will be must-see TV and likely another step closer to Underwood attaining greatness.
