Barcelona and Mallorca announced on Thursday an agreement for the permanent transfer of 19-year-old winger Jan Virgili, who has signed a five-year contract with his new club.
Barça’s statement confirms that the club will retain a percentage of a future sale and have a right of first refusal for any transfer involving Virgili, giving them plenty
of opportunity to bring the winger back if they choose to.
While neither clubs have confirmed any figures, all reports agree that Mallorca have paid a fee of €3.5 million for 50% of the player’s rights, with Barça then receiving half of the profits from a future sale.
Virgili joined Barça’s academy last summer and had a spectacular season, helping Barça’s Juvenil A team win a historic Treble and making his debut for Barça Atlètic where he also impressed.
Virgili wanted to play first team football this season but wasn’t going to get those opportunities at Barça, but now has a chance to play for a very competitive La Liga team to help his development.
Good luck at Mallorca, Jan Virgili!
