Harry Kane was named the official Player of the Match following England’s 4-2 win over Croatia on Wednesday.
The Bayern Munich striker went the distance under former club coach Thomas Tuchel and scored twice while, as usual, popping up all over the pitch. Kane was as likely to be found cycling possession back in his own half as he was getting into the box.
Sofascore credited him with two key passes and seven shots (three on target) from 35 touches.
Kane’s first goal came early in the first half after
Luka Modrić — another former Spurs man from long ago — clipped Noni Madueke in the box. Keeper Dominik Livaković (once linked to Bayern Munich after his heroics at the last Men’s World Cup) guessed right and saved, but was judged to have moved off his line early, and Kane buried the retake.
After a Croatia leveler, Kane restored the English lead, charging in unmarked on an outswinging Declan Rice corner to score — once again from just around the penalty spot.
At the end of the match, in minute five out of six of stoppage with England sporting a two-goal advantage, Kane got down on a set piece and took a blast straight to the chest to block Joško Gvardiol’s shot at the back post. Laying it all on the line, as he so often does at Bayern, Kane was instrumental to England’s surging start at the tournament.
England plays Ghana next on Tuesday, June 23rd.
