Islam Makhachev was not impressed with Mauricio Ruffy’s grappling ability — which is something Benoit Saint Denis took advantage of during an incredible performance on Saturday.
Saint Denis faced the surging Ruffy in the co-main event at UFC Paris, and in front of a loud hometown crowd, Saint Denis cooked Ruffy immediately, and showed the relentless style fans were treated to when Saint Denis started making his run in the UFC lightweight division. In the second round, “God of War” got control on the ground
once again and got the rear-naked choke submission.
After getting stopped in two straight bouts by Dustin Poirier and Renato Moicano, Saint Denis now has back-to-back second-round submission victories.
For Ruffy, his seven-fight win streak comes to an end. The Contender Series standout picked up three straight wins to start his UFC run, including a Knockout of the Year contender against King Green at UFC 313 in March.
UFC pros reacted to the performance from Saint Denis, including former lightweight champ Islam Makhachev. Check out some of their reactions below.
