Longtime New Orleans Saints safety Roman Harper was recently announced as a member of the newest Hall of Fame class for the Senior Bowl. He will join Harry Aganis, Jason Campbell, Norv Turner, and former LSU defensive tackle Booger McFarland in the class of 2026.
Harper was a standout in college, playing from 2006-09 as a three-year starter with the Alabama Crimson Tide. After participating in the 06’ Senior Bowl, Harper became an NFL second-round draft pick, going 43rd overall to the New Orleans Saints.
The safety would go on to become one of the top defenders in the team’s history, being named to the Saints Hall of Fame in 2021. He was an integral member of the Super Bowl XLIV team and made both of his career Pro Bowls in 2009 and 2010.
Roman spent nine of his eleven-year career in New Orleans wearing the black and gold. He would play in Carolina for the Panthers in 2014-15, the other two seasons. Harper finished his career with 819 total tackles, 18 sacks, 15 forced fumbles, five fumble recoveries, 11 interceptions, and two scores, both by way of a pick-six.
The Prattville, Alabama, native now works a variety of jobs as a commentator, analyst, and journalist. Since retiring from the field of play, Harper has stayed close to work at both the collegiate and professional levels. The recognition of being included in the Senior Bowl Hall of Fame should come as no surprise to anyone. Congrats, Harp!
