Liverpool FC have been linked to Tottenham Hotspurs’ full-back Djed Spence.
Per the Twitter/X aggregator account Anfield Sector, who seem to have sources now, the versatile full-back is receptive to the idea of a move to Liverpool. Which seems like an understatement after back to back seasons of finishing 17th.
The player is primarily a right-back, although he has filled in at left-back many times, which should be a salve for many a paranoid Liverpool fan.
Transfermarkt has him valued at €40m, with his value at an all-time high after the World Cup. Liverpool could also really use that English status and not use up another non homegrown slot, with just one free slot remaining. His contract is until 2029, with an option for another year beyond that.
That valuation feels extremely on the low side of things, and if Tottenham are happy to let him go with three or four years left… I’m not sure what that says. Maybe they just really prefer Pedro Porro, realised they have an English international playing backup and would like to cash in after slinging all that cash around this summer.
Spence has a bit of a reputation for being mistake-prone, but Spurs have just been a mess in general the last two seasons. On the plus side, he’s hell of an athlete, and versatile. For the right price, this is a player that could make a lot of sense.
